Children & Adolescents

Children and adolescents often struggle, just like we can as adults.

It may look different, and at times can be difficult to decipher if it’s just a part of their normal development, or if they are indeed struggling with internal emotions or negative thinking.

Sometimes they simply need someone outside their family or parental dynamic to talk to about how they’re feeling or what they’re struggling with. Other times, it’s the parents who need support in learning how to communicate with and/or understand their child.

Research shows that both children and adolescents can and do benefit from therapy. This is about self-exploration, at any age—providing a safe space to process and discuss whatever issues may arise.

Even though the child or adolescent is the client in this case, we still know that therapy works best with positive parental involvement. Therefore, they must be treated within the family system as this will assure the best results for the child or adolescent, as well as the parents.

Play Therapy

Through play, children learn. And through play therapy, children can learn new skills and tasks in an environment that is comfortable to them. The toys in essence become their words and the play becomes a space of self-expression and self-actualization. With guidance from a therapist, children are able to learn ways to communicate, express feelings, modify behavior, learn social skills, and problem solve in fun and creative ways.

We look forward to hearing from you and learning more about how we can help you heal.
