Parts, Sand Tray, and EMDR Techniques: An Integrated Approach When Working With Complex Trauma

About:
This course will focus specifically on how to integrate IFS, Sand Tray, and EMDR techniques together when working with complex trauma. In addition, this program will help the participant enhance their practice by incorporating the client’s symbolic “world” and facilitating the client in developing a deeper knowledge of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through taking this course, the participant will be able gather knowledge of use in internal family systems and sand tray modalities, specifically when working with complex trauma clients. In addition, the participant will be able to add containment strategies, meditations, and mindfulness exercises to their skill set. This two-day course will include both instruction, experiential break out groups, and role plays to further enhance mastery of the IFS and Sand Tray skills.
Upon Completion participant will be able to:
- Summarize the impact of complex trauma on the brain and areas of functioning.
- Better differentiate implicit/explicit and procedural memory systems.
- Identify how disassociation exists on a continuum, what dissociative symptoms to recognize and ways to screen for disassociation before you begin trauma work.
- Gain understanding of therapist and client challenges to trauma work.
- Identify 2-3 ways to create containment for trauma work.
- Gain competence in using Sand Tray in psychotherapy practice.
- Identify a variety of prompts for directive sand trays.
- Overview of symbolic representation of figures and subjective meaning of position in tray.
- Summarize the key components of the internal family system and how to map parts.
- Conceptualize Self energy and how to strengthen sense of self.
- Develop ability to identify types of wounds and ways to help parts unblend.
- Gain understanding around integration of sand tray and IFS in psychothearpy practice.
- Address transference/countertransference as it comes up in sand tray and parts work with trauma.
